Originally forming for a one-off party performance in August 2007, the members of Soul Benefactor decided that playing together was way too much fun to simply hang it up after only one night of music.
With decades of experience under their collective belts, the group of multi-instrumentalists decided to forge ahead and mine the deep grooves of classic recordings from the 1960s and 70s, breathing life into the songs of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Billy Preston, Junior Walker & The Allstars, Al Green, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Booker T. & The MGs, The Meters, Bill Withers, Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Derek & The Dominoes, Joe Cocker, CCR, The Rolling Stones and many more.
From bars and clubs, to outdoor festivals, weddings and private events, Soul Benefactor has played at functions all over the High Country, developing a loyal following of fans young and old. With a strong emphasis on songs you know and love but that aren’t played to death on oldies and classic rock radio, Soul Benefactor’s shows are always fun, fresh and funky.
In addition to the band’s normal shows, Soul Benefactor has also been known to focus on the work of particular artists for special theme concerts. The band has packed Boone Saloon at each of these annual must-see shows, focusing variously on the work of Redding, Green and other soul greats.
Since 2012, Soul Benefactor has presented an annual expanded 12-piece band, incorporating members of Boone’s Junaluska Gospel Choir for Boone Service League’s “Motown In The Mountains” (pictured above).
The band continues to widen their catalog of musical gems, always searching for that next great song that will hopefully keep fans running for the dance floor for years to come.
